Disable Norton Antivirus Email Scanning

If you are experiencing difficulties sending and receiving email and you are running Norton Antivirus, we recommend you follow the steps below. We recommend disabling the incoming and outgoing email scanning features of the program because they can sometimes interfere with your email access.

How To Disable Norton Antivirus Email Scanning

Locate the Norton Antivirus icon in the System Tray. This is usually in the bottom right hand corner of the screen next to the clock. It will look something like the image above

Right click on the Norton Antivirus icon and left click on “Configure Norton Antivirus”.

On the left hand side of the new window, click on the category labeled Email.

Remove the checkmarks from “Scan incoming email” and “Scan outgoing email” and press OK.

Please note that this does not interfere with the Norton Antivirus computer scanning features. The program is still protecting your computer from incoming viruses. The only difference is that now the attachments in emails will be scanned once you attempt to open them, rather than before they appear on your screen.
